Montage Monday: USA Gymnastics

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country. (Wikipedia)

This Labor Day, we celebrate all the gymnasts who work hard, day in and day out, holiday or no holiday, striving to be the best they can be.

USA Gymnastics - Roar

US Nationals wasn't too long ago but we now have a chance to celebrate USA Gymnastics... from the start. I love that every era is represented whether it's Mary Lou Retton or Bridget Sloan, Annia Hatch or Sarah Finnegan, many of the "greats" in USA gymnastics history are here. I particularly love the ending with our newest golden girls.

2013 P&G Championships- "I am a champion"
Anna Burns
This montage uses the same song as above but focuses more on the juniors and seniors that competed this year. I particularly enjoy the moments of Laurie Hernandez and Sydney Johnson-Scharpf dancing along with the music.

A Thousand Years (instrumental) - Kyla Ross

This would have to go on my list of perfect montages - perfect song and perfect gymnast. We've seen a lot of discussions of Kyla Ross and her artistry and this montage really highlights it. While she's still a little stiff, you can see how much she's grown (both literally and figuratively). Her opening choreo on floor exercise is so elegant... so just watch the montage.

McKayla Maroney. The Return.

Miss Ashley has been working hard on this montage and learning how to use all the different effects in Sony Vegas Pro. Although she's used it before, my favorite effect is the overlay and where it was used. For example, when she showed The Vault from the Olympics with her most recent vault at US Nationals. Maroney has grown a lot in this past year and the montage really highlights it.

Fierce Five: One Year Later

I've shared this montage before but don't think I featured it in a Montage Monday. The Fierce Five have all moved on to different things. Honestly, McKayla Maroney was the one I least expected to make a comeback this year but she's proved me wrong and is basically a "lock" for the World team. Kyla Ross is definitely living up to that title of the next "Bridget Sloan" - the baby of the Olympic team ready to take on the gymnastics world in the post-Olympic year. We just need to keep our fingers crossed for no subsequent injuries! Jordyn is now at UCLA and should be starting with Chris Waller, coach of Olympian Mohini Bhardwaj. Gabby Douglas is believed to be joining as she prepares for her made-for-TV movie. Aly is working with a charity right now planning an event to raise money for lung cancer. What a year it has been!
